When I was in high school, most of my closest friends lived in Bluffton. This meant that almost every weekend I would be in Bluffton, exploring all it has to offer. The Church of the Cross at the end of Calhoun Street was one of me and my friend’s favorite places to go hang out and watch the sunset. I have always viewed it as Bluffton’s most important landmark. In fact, the church was the very first place that I took photos at to kick off my Homeland – Beaufort County series. It was extremely important to me to start off the project that I assumed would consume the next year of my artistic expression on a high note. I pushed myself very hard and spent many hours going around the entire property to find a new and unique angle of the church. This photo was taken on that very first morning. This photo is the first photo of the project that I hope acts as the catalyst for a series of projects that become the focus of my early career.
