Habersham is a neighborhood located in Burton, SC. I lived in a smaller neighborhood in Burton and always envied the kids that were lucky enough to live in Habersham as it was the nicest neighborhood that was close. In fact, my parents would always take me and my younger siblings there every Halloween, so that we could hit a larger amount of houses. The large oaks full of spanish moss, beautiful views of the marsh, and large walking parks were and are still the highlights of Habersham, along with the fantastic community of course. A big part of this community is a strong focus on staying active. Habersham has a great gym, mountain bike trails, and the easy kayak access and storage that this image displays. This mix of a beautiful Lowcountry location and active lifestyle has always appealed to me and have always wanted to call it my home one day.
Kayaking is one of my favorite summer activities (especially the early summer while the water is still on the colder side). A couple memories kayaking with friends are going to the various sandbars, playing in the pluff mud, floating under the middle of a catamaran boat, and stopping at random docks to jump off. Although all the shenanigans that come with kayaking with friends are a blast, I am beginning to prefer the subdued peacefulness of being on the river by myself. During the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, kayaking became an amazing way for me to escape the outside world and explore nature. There is no better way to explore the salt marsh than in a kayak.
