Widgeon Point Preserve is a nature preserve on the Broad River. It opened to the public in early 2021 and I was out exploring it almost immediately. For as long as I can remember, the barn that can be seen from the road had piqued my interest. I would always look towards it with a sense of longing to explore it. I had always wanted to climb over the fence one night, but never had the bravery to do so. As soon as I heard that the preserve was open to the public, I knew I HAD to go. I began regularly walking the trail and taking pictures of the wildlife there before very many people even knew about it. I have always enjoyed being out in nature and having an open area to explore by myself was fantastic. My favorite explorations at Widgeon Point Preserve were the ones where I put on some boots and walked off the trails and onto the salt flats. The small islands that are disconnected from the main preserve trail felt like my own world. This photo captures the salt flats that act as a passageway to these distant islands full of footsteps that myself and some other adventures have made.
