Although I have lived in and explored Beaufort County my whole life, Daufuskie Island had always seemed to evade me. I had plenty of days that me and my friends wanted to go, but something always popped up. When I created a list of locations in Beaufort County that I wanted to shoot for Hometown – Beaufort County, I knew I had to get some photos of Daufuskie. An evening finally came that a friend mentioned not having work the next day. A little more than 12 hours later, we were waiting on the ferry to take us to the island. A full day on the island with no plan whatsoever was exactly the way I had always wanted to experience the island. We rented a golf cart and drove around the island, making various stops such as The First Union African Baptist Church, Bloody Point, the old schoolhouse, and the abandoned golf club and resort. My day at Daufuskie Island was one of the most adventure filled days in recent memory, and I cannot wait to go back soon.
