Broad River is one of the rivers that separates Port Royal Island from the mainland. The current bridge over the river is 1.7 miles long and was predated by a smaller, trestle bridge. A portion of this old bridge was converted to a fishing pier. Broad River is a big destination for Cobia fishermen and during breeding months the Broad River landing and pier are always full, if the weather allows. I have never fished there personally, but I have made countless trips to watch to sunset there. During the first 9 months of shooting Homeland – Beaufort County I lived at an apartment complex right down the road from the pier. Any time that I was busy and only had a few minutes to rush out before sunset, the Broad River Fishing Pier would be my go-to spot. This image was taken on one of those busy afternoons. To me this photo represents my time living in those apartments (the first place I lived after moving out of my parent’s house).
